No Dog Was Involved In The Mombasa Porn Case: Police States

As time changes so do information. Police on Wednesday denied reports that a dog was involved in the shooting of a pornographic video at an apartment in Nyali estate last week.

A Swiss national and eleven women were arrested at the apartment  while allegedly shooting the  video. The twelve were initially reported to have been shooting the video with a dog.

However, Kisauni DCIO Shadrack Juma, who is leading the investigations dismissed the allegation.

" To my knowledge no dog was found during the police raid,” said Juma. The Kisauni DCIO said it is unfair for the public to give false reports about the incident.

The twelve were arraigned before Mombasa senior resident magistrate Richard Odenyo on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to three counts of prostitution contrary to the Sexual Offences Act.

The Swiss, Christopher Clement Weissenrieder who faces three counts of exploitation of prostitution and was released on a Sh1 million  bond. The Kenyan ladies were released on a Sh100,000 bond each.

A Hearing has been  set for July 4. Juma said that the foreigner used to work with the United Nations and left about three years ago. According to police his passport indicates that he came to Kenya on March 1, this year.

"He was supposed to stay in the country for 90 days as he came as a tourist,” Juma said.
He said a team of detectives have mounted a manhunt for a Kenyan woman who allegedly colluded with him to lure girls into prostitution .

HIV Cure In Months - Danish Scientists Reports

The London telegraph has reported that Danish Scientists believe that they may have a cure for HIV 'within months'. A group of researchers at Arhus University Hospital in Denmark are testing a new technique that involves flushing the virus from so called reservoirs in human DNA. The virus is then destroyed naturally by the body's immune system.

They are expecting results to show that finding a mass-distributable and affordable cure to HIV is possible . 15 patients are taking in the trials, funded with 2.1 million dollars from the Danish Research Council. If they are found to have successfully been cured of HIV, the new technique will be tested on a wider scale.

any cure would be affordable to any of the 33 million people worldwide afflicted by the virus. however, despite the trials Dr. Ole Sogaard, a senior researcher in the department of infectious disease warned that the efficacy in the human body remained unproven. He was quoted in the Medical Daily as saying that ' The challenge will be getting the patients; immune systems to recognize the virus and destroy it. This depends on the strength and sensitivity of individual immune systems'.

“In Solidarity” - The theme of the 30th International AIDS Candlelight Memoria

The theme of the 30th International AIDS Candlelight Memorial is “In solidarity”. On Sunday 19 May 2013, for the 30th time, grassroots organizations worldwide will commemorate International AIDS Candlelight Memorial. Communities will raise awareness around HIV, stand together with people living with HIV and remember the loved ones lost to HIV and AIDS.

The theme of “In solidarity” emphasizes the need for people living with and affected by HIV to join hands and work together in the response to HIV. Solidarity in communities is essential to reduce stigma and promote the involvement of people living with HIV in order to ensure a more effective HIV response. Only together as communities can we advocate for universal access to quality health and social services.

Organizing the memorial for the 30th time is no reason for celebration. When the AIDS Candlelight Memorial was held first in 1983, no-one could have predicted the scale of the global epidemic. With millions of lives lost and around 33 million people currently living with HIV, HIV remains a challenging reality. While for many people HIV has become a chronic disease, many others lack access to treatment and experience HIV-related stigma, discrimination and human rights violations on a daily basis. The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial reminds us of the impact that HIV has on our lives locally and globally.
